 HobbyQuest  http://www.hobbyquest.com

Most educational model aviation programs are done by interested teachers, model aviation hobbyist that volunteer their time, or are part of a larger program such as Science Olympiad. Recently I discovered there was a private business, Hobby Quest that runs model aviation programs. Hobby Quest is operating mainly in the Northeastern part of the United States but they do have an office in the St. Louis , Missouri area.

Their attractive and well organized website gives lots of details on their programs. Established in 2002 as “The Aviation Club”, presently they are active in 300 schools with over 7000 students a year. I spoke on the phone with the founder, Boaz Givon about Hobby Quest, it was immediately apparent his passion for model aviation and teaching this to young people.  Boaz was a classroom teacher but he had so many requests from schools for him to teach his model aviation classes, he decided the only way to fulfill the request was to make this a fulltime business.

Science Olympiad - http://www.soinc.org/

Science Olympiad is a science competition that is held in many schools at the middle and high school levels. There has been a model airplane event (Wright Stuff) which I have personally helped with and wrote a web article about, “The Right Stuff for the Gold”, a rather amazing story of how three young guys because of their start in model planes in Science Olympiad went on to be world champions in the most difficult indoor model airplane competition. Be sure to check out the Alumni tab on the Science Olympiad website to read more stories in how Science Olympiad has been a major positive influence in career choices.
